Rays Prevail, as Round 1 Goes to the Wire
The thrill of victory and the agony of defeat were on full display tonight at Louisville Grounds as the Round 1 stretched to the final game.

It was the Tampa Bay (GCL) Rays feeling the thrill of victory, with a 6-3 win over the New York N (GCL) Mets, who were feeling the devastation of coming up short in their quest to make the Round 2.

"There's no way around it -- this sucks," said New York N (GCL) manager Ron Woods. "Congratulations to Tampa Bay (GCL), but I won't sugarcoat it, no one is happy about anything that transpired here tonight."

Instrumental in the 3-2 series win was second baseman Joe Slayback, who was named MVP. He hit .381 with a .381 on-base percentage. He had 0 home runs, drove in 3 RBI and scored 3 runs.

"We've got the most important stat of all and that's this final win -- that's the one that matters," he said.

The Tampa Bay (GCL) Rays will play against the Houston (GCL) Astros in the next round. Houston (GCL) won their series against the Toronto (GCL) Blue Jays 3 games to 1. The Round 2 schedule will be announced after the Round 1 finishes.
