Yankees Handled by Boston, 5-3
|
The Boston Red Sox had to overcome a fine effort from New York pitcher Eddy Alvarez to grab a narrow 5-3 win at Fenway Park. Alvarez went 6.2 innings and allowed 5 runs. Boston reliever Tristan Bevan got the win, raising his record to 1-0. Eddy Alvarez was tagged with the loss. Danny Urista got credit for the save for Boston. It was his 8th of the year.
In the bottom of the seventh, Boston right fielder Michael Lindstrom gave his team the lead. With two out and runners on 1st and 2nd, Kiké hit his 4th home run of the year. New York pitcher Eddy Alvarez surrendered it. With that, the Red Sox jumped in front, 5-3.
"I still think this team can play even better," Lindstrom told the Boston Gazette.
The win gives Boston a record of 15-10.
