Time's Up: Springer to Retire Tuesday, April 28th , 2099 His Oakland Athletics teammates were not terribly surprised when Corey Springer announced his retirement today. In a low-key affair, Springer explained his rationale. "My aches and pains have caught up with me. They don't seem to go away like they used to when I was a kid," he said. "I'm spending more and more time in the trainer's room and less and less time preparing for my next game. I've come to a realization that I've done what I can in this game and spending more time playing baseball is just stealing from my future self." When asked, the team manager noted "Corey has always been an honest man and when he says he's done, well, he's done." In his career, Springer is hitting .253 with 494 hits, 2 home runs, 164 runs scored and 170 RBIs. |
