New York‘s Carlos Salazar would not be denied the American League Player of the Week Award for this past week. His consistent stroke, which produced 10 hits in 19 at-bats and a .526 average, made him the clear favorite to win the honor.
“You just go out there and do what you have to do,” said Salazar, “When I’m up, I try to focus and block everything else out of my mind and have a good at-bat. I’m up there to get a hit or advance a runner, not to get caught up in the emotion of the moment. I hope I can win this award every week.”
He also tallied 5 home runs, 12 RBIs, and scored 8 runs.
Salazar is hitting .305 this year with 32 home runs, 107 RBIs and 113 runs scored. He has 156 hits in 511 at-bats, 103 walks and a .417 on-base percentage. Salazar has played in 134 games.
