Cincinnati Scrapes Out 8-6 Win
The inspired effort of New York third baseman Grant Goff was not enough to prevent a loss, 8-6, to the Cincinnati Reds. Goff was 4 for 5 with a home run, a double, and 2 singles. He scored 2 times and drove in 2. The winner was Zion Carter in relief. His record improves to 3-3. Colin Orr took the loss. The loss drops New York to 8-21.

Had Eric Starnes not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and the bases loaded, Starnes hit a 2-run single. That made the score 8-6, in favor of the Reds.

"It's still just a game," said Starnes, "whether you win or lose."
