Braves Get Past Philadelphia for 2-1 Win
|
In a tension-filled contest between the Atlanta Braves and the Philadelphia Phillies, pitcher Andy Bourdeau was superb. The Atlanta left-hander, who finished 2nd in the NL in wins with 22 last year, spearheaded his team's 2-1 win. The win went to Bill Hanley in relief, making him now 1-1. Mike Middleton took the loss for Philadelphia. The win gives Atlanta a record of 17-14.
Atlanta got a knockout punch from Kenny Akers. The shortstop hammered a 2-run home run in the bottom of the ninth inning to win the game. It might've been his only hit, but it decided the outcome.
Akers said the team appreciates the support from the fans. "I'm glad we could reward them with a good win," he said after the game.
