Padres Win, 4-1, at San Francisco
|
The San Diego Padres took San Francisco pitcher Chris Martin's best shot and still were able to claim a win at AT&T Park. The final score had San Diego getting past the Giants, 4-1. Martin went 6.1 innings and allowed 4 runs, striking out 3. Jose Benitez, 3-0, earned the win in relief. He allowed no runs on no hits in 1.2 innings. Losses have been few and far between for the Giants so far this season. Their record drops to 20-9.
San Diego used a well-timed hit by Alfredo Beltran to capture the win. The second baseman socked a run-scoring double in the top of the third inning to put the Padres ahead, 1-0. Though it was his only hit in 3 at-bats, it was important.
"This level of focus will win us a lot of ballgames," Beltran said after the game.
