Rays Pocket 3-1 Win Against New York
|
Tampa Bay got a first-rate effort from pitcher Tony Severs, who frustrated New York hitters en route to a 3-1 Rays triumph at Yankee Stadium. The winning pitcher was Severs, now 2-0. He tossed 5.2 innings of 5-hit ball, while walking 2 and fanning 3. Tim Berigan closed it out for Tampa Bay, earning his 10th save.
Tampa Bay used the hitting of Dave Van den Bussche to pick up the win. The second baseman clubbed a solo home run in the top of the first inning to put the Rays on top, 1-0. For the game, Van den Bussche had 1 home run and 1 single in 4 at-bats.
"I tell our guys all the time, 'Every pitch is the right pitch if you put it in the right place, you believe in it and have conviction,'" Tampa Bay manager Kyle Delgado said.
The Yankees fall to 14-18 and continue their uninspiring start to the 2110 season.
