Athletics Get Clutch Win Versus Los Angeles
|
In a low-scoring tilt between the Oakland Athletics and the Los Angeles Angels, Alex Cruz, who is tied for 2nd in the AL in quality starts with 6, was the difference-maker. The Oakland right-hander spearheaded the 3-2 win. Jesus Rivera, now 2-1, was credited with the win in 1 innings of relief. He allowed no runs on no hits, while striking out 0 and walking 0. Nick Rodriquez earned the save for Oakland, his 6th of the year.
Erick Soto went 2-3 with 2 singles, while adding 2 RBI for Oakland. The slick-fielding second baseman had a key at-bat in the bottom of the eighth. With one out and runners on 2nd and 3rd, he broke a 2-2 tie with a run-scoring sacrifice fly off Joey Renner. It was his 20th RBI of the season.
"We'll take some time to unwind," said Soto, "and then get after it again."
The Athletics now have a record of 17-16 with the win over Los Angeles.
