Blue Jays Rally For Late Win Over Yankees
|
The Blue Jays grabbed a win, 6-3, at Yankee Stadium, overcoming a fine effort from New York pitcher Chris Williams. Williams went 5 innings and allowed 1 run. Benny Morgan, who finished 3rd in the NL in saves with 40 in 2110, earned the win in relief. The right-hander allowed no runs on 1 hit in 1.1 innings. He upped his record to 2-1. The loss drops New York to 18-16.
The game was at a stalemate until catcher Mike Beiriger came to bat in the top of the eighth. Facing New York pitcher Zach Rogers, he hit a full count sinker for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Toronto on top, 4-3.
"Pleased with the effort and the win," said Blue Jays manager Rodney Smith.
