Wimmer Leads Rays to 7-2 Win Over Astros
The exploits of designated hitter Dan Wimmer, who is on pace for 211 hits this season, helped the Tampa Bay Rays defeat the Houston Astros, 7-2. Wimmer went 3-5 with a home run and 2 singles. He scored 2 runs and drove in 5. Tampa Bay pitcher Johnny Grove got the win. He's now 2-1. Miguel Fregoso was tagged with the loss. Picking up the save was 31-year old right-handed pitcher Henry Vielma.

With Tampa Bay trailing 2-0 in the top of the third, Wimmer hit a cutter from Miguel Fregoso for a grand slam home run. It was his 7th home run of the season and put the Rays ahead, 4-2.

In comments to the Tampa Bay Daily, Wimmer admitted that he doesn't always push himself. "But the results," he said, "speak for themselves."

Tampa Bay now sits at 23-10, while Houston falls to 14-20.
