Behind a fine performance from Jesus Vazquez, the Seattle Mariners knocked off the Minnesota Twins, 8-6. Vazquez went 2-4 with 2 home runs for the Mariners. Tommy Houston, the winning pitcher, improved to 2-2. He pitched 5.1 innings, giving up 5 hits and 4 runs, while striking out 7 and walking 5. Ryan Kelly earned the save for Seattle, his 9th.

The Mariners got a big hit from left fielder Ray McNary. Facing Minnesota pitcher Ron Hazard in the bottom of the fifth, McNary pounded a 2-run double to right. His 5th double of the season put the Mariners ahead, 4-3.

Mariners manager Huckleberry O'Day wasn't all too pleased, despite the win, telling reporters that the performance highlighted some clear areas for improvement moving forward. He refused to be more specific, however. "I'm not gonna publicize our weaknesses," he said. "That stuff stays in the clubhouse."

The loss drops Minnesota to 16-18.
