A good performance from catcher Carlos Cortez helped the San Francisco Giants defeat the Arizona Diamondbacks, 9-3. Cortez went 4-4 with a home run and 3 singles for the Giants. San Francisco, at 15-20, occupies 4th place in the National League West Division.

Matt Milone had a big 2-run double for the Giants in the top of the fourth inning. With San Francisco leading 4-3 and runners on 1st and 3rd, he got a fastball from 26-year old right-handed pitcher Bubba Schmitz and swatted a double to right-center. It was his 11th double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Giants ahead, 6-3.

"We didn't get the results that we wanted," said Arizona skipper Terrell Bailey.
