Down to Defeat Goes Chicago, 3-2
|
The bats were silent much of the day at Wrigley Field. But two-time All-Star Adam Powers produced just enough offense to carry the Reds past the Chicago Cubs, 3-2. Powers was 1 for 2 with a home run and 2 walks. Cincinnati has a record of 21-15, placing them second in the National League Central Division.
Cincinnati needed the clutch hitting of Tom Hedges to seal the deal. The left fielder swatted a 2-run home run in the top of the seventh inning to put the Reds on top, 3-2. For the game, Hedges had 1 home run and 1 single in 5 at-bats.
"Against this team here, fangs out late in the game, it's nice to beat them," said Cincinnati skipper BJ Gorman.
