The Boston Red Sox beat the Texas Rangers, 9-2, at Fenway Park. The win was due in part to right fielder Jose Martinez, who went 2-3 with a home run and a walk. He scored 2 runs and drove in 2. Boston pitcher Frank Macias got the win. He's now 2-0. Robby Thienes was tagged with the loss. The third-place Red Sox lifted their record to 17-21.

Andy Rustay had a big 3-run home run for the Red Sox in the bottom of the third inning. With Boston leading 3-1 and runners on 1st and 2nd, he sized up a fastball from Robby Thienes, who leads the AL in complete games with 1, and punished it. The result was his 2nd home run of the season, which put the Red Sox on top, 6-1.

Said losing manager Stephen Gesualdi: "We did everything to set the stage for them to beat us."
