Pirates Get 8-6 Win Versus St. Louis
|
The Pittsburgh Pirates weathered a fine game by St. Louis first baseman Chad Gutshall to upend the Cardinals, 8-6, at PNC Park. Gutshall went 2 for 4 with a home run, while adding 5 RBI and scoring once. Ian Mignogna, who is tied for 7th in the NL with a 1.02 WHIP, was the winning pitcher. Over 5.2 innings, he allowed 3 runs on 6 hits, with no walks and 8 strikeouts. Atsushi Hasegawa, who is tied for 9th in the NL in holds with 4, nailed down the save.
John Gibson, who is tied for 8th in the NL in extra base hits with 18, took St. Louis hurler Andy Nappi deep in the bottom of the first. His 2-run home run put the Pirates on top, 2-0. In all, Gibson had 1 single in addition to the home run, while going 2 for 4.
"Winning is contagious," said Gibson. "We're looking forward to the next game."
The Pirates now own a record of 24-12.
