8-6 Loss Deepens Cincinnati Funk
The 8-6 Pittsburgh win over Cincinnati was due largely to Zachary Gugliotta. The Pirates first baseman was 2 for 3 with a home run and a double. He drove in 5 runs and scored once. The win belongs to Bobby Keever in relief. His record improves to 3-1. Josh Blackburn took the loss for Cincinnati. Dana House got the save, the 9th for him this season.

Gugliotta contributed a big hit, a 3-run home run, for Pittsburgh in the bottom of the third. With his team trailing 2-1, Gugliotta took a fastball from Josh Blackburn and stroked the home run to right. His 4th home run of the season allowed the Pirates to leap in front, 4-2.

"We took advantage of our opportunities," Gugliotta told the Pittsburgh Citizen. "It's as simple as that."

The first-place Pirates now have a win-loss record of 26-10.
