Gunter Helps Cardinals Defeat Mets, 12-8
Jay Gunter knocked in 5 runs to help St. Louis beat New York, 12-8. Gunter produced 1 single, 1 double, and 1 home run. St. Louis currently is in first place in the National League Central Division at 24-13.

St. Louis catcher Arturo Emiliani contributed a timely at-bat in the bottom of the third. With two down, he hit a slider to center field for a 2-run single. It was his 9th hit of the season and put the Cardinals ahead, 6-3.

"I like to keep things lively in the clubhouse," said Gunter. "Believe me, it's much easier after a win."
