Athletics Stay Hot with Extra-Inning Win
|
The Oakland Athletics did just enough to secure a victory over the Cleveland Guardians, 8-7, in 14 innings at Progressive Field. Nobody did more than left fielder Blake Zobel. Oakland reliever Jamie Martin picked up the win, upping his record to 1-1. Manny Castro was saddled with the loss. Wade Ray picked up the save for Oakland, his 1st of the year.
The game was all tied up in the top of the 14th, until Zobel delivered big-time for Oakland, stroking a dramatic run-scoring single off Manny Castro. The game-changing hit put the Athletics on top, 8-7.
"The guys come to the ballpark ready," said Athletics manager Jon Pearson. "They're going out there and doing the simple things right."
The first-place Athletics have a record of 21-17.
