Pirates Best Cardinals, 8-1
|
The Pittsburgh Pirates topped the St. Louis Cardinals, 8-1, in National League action at PNC Park. The game was highlighted by the performance of Pittsburgh first baseman Akira Nagata. Pittsburgh is now 15-23.
The Cardinals had been locked in a 1-1 tie with the Pirates going into the bottom of the third inning. That changed quickly when the 29-year old first baseman Zachary Gugliotta came to the plate. Gugliotta hit a 2-run double on a 2-1 fastball from St. Louis hurler Trent Vaccaro. It was Gugliotta's 7th double of the year.
"When I'm in the lineup, I always feel like we're going to win the game," said Nagata.
