Boston designated hitter Will Gilmore had a terrific game, but it still wasn't enough to get his team a win. Gilmore went 3 for 5 with a home run and a double, while scoring 2 times and driving in 3, even as Kansas City beat the Red Sox, 13-11. Mark Ashford, the winning pitcher, improved to 6-0. He pitched 6.1 innings, giving up 9 hits and 3 runs, while striking out 5 and walking 2. Dallas Cart recorded his 8th save for Kansas City.

The Royals got a big hit from shortstop Tom Crawford. Facing Boston pitcher Ernesto Balderas in the bottom of the fifth, Crawford pounded a 3-run home run to left. His 1st home run of the season put the Royals ahead, 10-2.

"A great team win and something real positive we can build on," said Crawford after the game.

The win makes Kansas City 24-15.
