The Boston Red Sox defeated the Texas Rangers, 8-6, in part because of third baseman Allan Chapman. Chapman went 2-5 with a home run. He scored 2 times and drove in 3 for the Red Sox. Dave Salvaggio, the winning pitcher, improved to 3-5. He pitched 5.1 innings, giving up 4 hits and 1 run, while striking out 2 and walking 2. Scott Duree, who led the AL in saves with 40 in 2105, nailed down the save.

Early in the game, Chapman had a 2-run home run for Boston. It was his 6th home run of the season and put the Red Sox on top, 2-0.

"Our approach was just to try to see something over the plate and be aggressive," Chapman told the Boston Daily News.

The win makes Boston 19-22.
