The Greeneville Astros put one in the win column with an opening day 6-3 triumph over the Kingsport Mets. The crowd at Pioneer Park watched Jose Diaz put on a fine performance. Diaz, the winner, moves to 1-0. He threw 7 innings of 4-hit ball, while fanning 10 and giving up 4 walks.

The Mets had been locked in a 2-2 tie with the Astros going into the bottom of the fourth inning. That changed quickly when the 24-year old center fielder Carter Henderson came to the plate. Henderson hit a run-scoring double on a 1-1 fastball from Kingsport hurler George Faint. It was Henderson's 2nd double of the year.

Greeneville manager Carlos Diaz was pleased with the team's effort. "It was just a good, gutsy performance by everybody," he said.
