Royals Earn Late 3-2 Win
|
Opening day festivities have begun throughout the league. Fans of the Burlington Royals were eager to watch Harry Evans square off against Melvin Balderas of the visiting Pulaski Yankees. In the end, the Royals won the game, 3-2, with Harry Evans leading the way. The win went to George Bryan in relief. His record improves to 1-0. Quincy Cunningham took the loss. Rob Hyde recorded the save for Burlington, his 1st of the season.
The game was at a stalemate until center fielder Skyler Brown came to bat in the bottom of the eighth. Facing Pulaski pitcher Quincy Cunningham, he hit a 2-2 splitter for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Burlington on top, 3-2.
Brown said the team appreciates the support from the fans. "I'm glad we could reward them with a good win," he said after the game.
