Opening day festivities have begun throughout the league. Fans of the Bluefield Blue Jays were eager to watch Roland Langford square off against Ross LaMorgese of the visiting Burlington Royals. In the end, the Royals won the game, 8-2, with Ross LaMorgese leading the way. Ray Maier earned the save for Burlington, his 1st.

Burlington used a clutch at-bat from Josh Peet to capture the win. The designated hitter hammered a 3-run home run in the top of the fourth inning to put the Royals ahead, 4-0. It was his lone hit in 3 at-bats, but it was a humdinger.

"We took it on the chin tonight," said losing manager Nate Todaro.
