Athletics Snatch Late-Game, 2-1 Win
|
Oakland Athletics starter Dylan Harrison found his groove in his team's 2-1 win over the Toronto Blue Jays. Oakland reliever Ben Meyer was the winner. His record is now 1-1. The losing pitcher was Bryan Bassett. Nick Rodriquez was called on to finish, recording his 11th save.
Oakland used the timely hitting of Mark Hovell to seize the win. The catcher stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the seventh inning to put the Athletics on top, 1-0. It was his only hit in 3 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"We just didn't score enough runs to win," said Toronto manager Dan Silva.
The first-place Athletics now have a record of 23-19.
