San Francisco (Rk+) Sent Home with 1-0 Loss
|
Hunter Wright Stadium hosted a real pitchers' duel.
Kingsport pitcher Nolan Nelson had a large part in his team beating the San Francisco (Rk+) Giants, 1-0. The right-hander kept opposing batters in check throughout the game. Kingsport reliever Chris Horan snagged the win, upping his record to 2-0. Matt Sheffer shouldered the loss. Donzel Scorsese was credited with the save for Kingsport, his 2nd of the season.
With scoring opportunities rare, the Mets had to cash in when they had the chance. One such opportunity presented itself in the bottom of the sixth, when first baseman Steve Freeman hit a run-scoring single. The single came off Matt Sheffer and made the score 1-0, Mets. Freeman went 1 for 4.
"We'll put this win in the can," said Freeman, "and go after the next one."
Kingsport sits at 2-4 in the early going.
