Bristol first baseman David Welch had a good game in a losing cause. His team fell, 14-9, to Burlington at Burlington Athletic Stadium. Welch went 2-5 with a home run. He scored 2 runs and drove in 3. Nate Wood picked up the win in relief, improving his record to 1-0. August Kirchmann was tagged with the loss. The win moves Burlington to a record of 9-2.

The game was at a stalemate until right fielder Jamie Martin came to bat in the bottom of the eighth. Facing Bristol pitcher August Kirchmann, he hit a first pitch curveball for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Burlington on top, 6-5.

"If you were looking for a pitchers' duel," said Martin, "this wasn't it."
