Starting pitcher Eric Lamont was a major factor in the 3-2 Burlington Royals triumph over the San Diego (Rk+) Padres. Lamont got the win, improving to 3-0. He gave up 5 hits and walked 4 over 5.2 innings. He allowed no runs. Vinny Nieto got the save, the 2nd for him this season.

Chris McCormack had a big run-scoring double for the Royals in the bottom of the fifth inning. With Burlington leading 2-1 and a runner on 2nd, he got a fastball from 19-year old left-handed pitcher Cortez de la Garza and swatted a double to left-center. It was his 1st double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Royals ahead, 3-1.

After the game, Burlington manager Jim Vickery applauded the team's effort. "They busted their tails out there," he said.

The defeat makes the Padres 6-9.
