Giants Topple Braves, 5-3
|
The home crowd had a good time watching the Danville Braves and San Francisco (Rk+) Giants get after it.
The San Francisco (Rk+) Giants took Danville pitcher Joram van der Meijden's best shot and still were able to claim a win at Ballpark of Anchorage. The final score had San Francisco (Rk+) getting past the Braves, 5-3. van der Meijden went 5.2 innings and allowed 1 run, striking out 5. Pedro Munoz earned the win after being summoned from the bullpen. The right-hander allowed no runs on 1 hit in 2.1 innings. His record is now 1-4. Jared Alanis picked up the save for San Francisco (Rk+), his 1st of the year.
Had Daniel Nieto not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and a runner on 3rd, Nieto hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 4-3, in favor of the Giants.
Nieto told a San Francisco (Rk+) Daily News reporter that he was "very satisfied" with the win.
San Francisco (Rk+) now sits at 9-10, while Danville falls to 3-16.
