The Princeton Rays, despite a fine performance by Johnson City pitcher Roberto Montoya, grabbed a 3-1 win at H.P. Hunnicutt Field. Montoya allowed 3 runs over 6.1 innings. Jason Pierce, the winning pitcher, is now 1-2. He went 5 innings, allowing 1 run on 5 hits, while fanning 6 and walking 4. Merlin Penney, summoned from the bullpen, notched his 1st save.
The Rays got a gift in the bottom of the third inning, when they were leading 1-0. With two out and the bases loaded, Alex Santiago reached on an error by the 3B, driving in 1 run. It made the score 2-0, Princeton.
"We're feeling good in this clubhouse right now after that one," Santiago told the Princeton Daily.
Princeton is 5th in the East with a record of 7-14.
