Slumping Pirates Lose Again, 2-0
|
In a tight tilt between the Johnson City Cardinals and the Bristol Pirates, Roberto Montoya was the deciding factor. The Johnson City right-hander spearheaded the 2-0 win. Montoya yielded no runs over 5.2 innings to notch the win. He scattered 2 hits, walked 5, and struck out 9. His record improves to 3-1. Dennis Woodruff wrapped it up, recording his 2nd save.
The outcome was still in doubt in the top of the ninth inning. With runners on 1st and 3rd and Bristol trailing 2-0, Dennis Woodruff needed to get a big out. On a first pitch fastball, Ricardo Rivera, who is tied for 9th in the APP in hits with 33, flied out, putting the kibosh on a potential rally.
The first-place Cardinals have won 5 in a row.
