Cardinals Pull Off Thrilling 7-4 Win in Extras
|
Though the conditions were not ideal, the Johnson City Cardinals and Pulaski Yankees came back from a rain delay to finish their game.
Phil Oliveri led the charge as the Johnson City Cardinals defeated the Pulaski Yankees, 7-4, in 10 innings at Calfee Park. Oliveri went 3-5 with a home run and 2 singles. He drove in 4 runs and scored once. Johnson City pitcher Earl Offield got the win. He's now 2-4. Jim Unknown was tagged with the loss. Getting the save was Ken Burden, his 1st.
Oliveri had a game-changing home run in the top of the tenth. On a 1-1 fastball from Jim Unknown, he banged a grand slam home run to right-center, giving the Cardinals a 6-2 lead. It was the 2nd home run of the year for Oliveri.
"It's a good feeling when you fight so hard and win," said Cardinals manager Francisco Zamarripa.
The slumping Yankees have dropped 6 in a row.
