Boston (Rk+) third baseman David Beason played a vital role in his team's 4-2 conquest of San Francisco (Rk+). He went 1-1 with 2 walks for Boston (Rk+). Alexis Cordova closed the door for Boston (Rk+), picking up his 2nd save of the year. The second-place Giants dropped to 16-19.

Cody Bower had a big 2-run double for the Red Sox in the bottom of the fifth inning. With Boston (Rk+) trailing 1-0 and the bases loaded, he got a fastball from 18-year old left-handed pitcher Bryan Townsend and swatted a double to left-center. It was his 5th double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Red Sox ahead, 2-1.

"Nice win for us," said Bower. "Now we'll go after the next one."
