Phillies Roast Yankees, 11-1
|
The Philadelphia Phillies used an offensive barrage to beat the New York Yankees, 11-1, at Yankee Stadium. Luis Esquivel led the way, going 3-for-5 for Philadelphia. Erik Roth came out of the bullpen to earn the win. The right-hander allowed no runs on 1 hit in 4 innings. His record now stands at 4-1. The first-place Phillies are now 25-18, the Yankees 21-22.
The Phillies got a big at-bat from third baseman Pete Ray. For the game, Ray went 1 for 5 with a double. He drove in 2 runs and scored once. In the top of the first, with a runner on 2nd, he stroked a run-scoring double. His 8th double of the season gave Philadelphia a 1-0 lead.
New York manager Mike Hanson called the blowout loss "a real stinker."
