Braves Reel In 5-2 Win
|
The Danville Braves defeated the Princeton Rays, 5-2, at American Legion Field. Leading the charge for Danville was shortstop Nicholas Matthews. He went 1-3 with a home run and a walk. He drove in 4 runs and scored once. Danville reliever Chris Howard picked up the win, upping his record to 2-3. George Hoffman was saddled with the loss. Ray Gutierrez wrapped it up, recording his 1st save.
Matthews had a game-changing home run in the bottom of the seventh. On a 1-1 fastball from George Hoffman, he banged a 3-run home run to left-center, giving the Braves a 5-2 lead. It was the 4th home run of the year for Matthews.
Said losing manager Rusty Brady: "Obviously, we wished for a better outcome."
The 4th-place Braves now have a win-loss record of 24-23.
