Red Sox Get Better of Rays, 4-1
|
A nice crowd turned out for a clash between the Boston (Rk+) Red Sox and Princeton Rays.
Boston (Rk+) beat Princeton on the strength of starting pitcher Jose Gijon's fine effort. The right-hander led his team to a win, 4-1. Gijon got the win, improving to 1-5. He gave up 2 hits and walked 2 over 5.1 innings. He allowed 1 run. Tyler Ropson got the save, the 5th for him this season.
Who knows how it might've ended, had it not been for Brian St. Clair? The Boston (Rk+) center fielder had a run-scoring ground out in the top of the second inning to put the Red Sox on top, 2-0. For the game, St. Clair had 1 double and 1 single in 5 at-bats.
"I think every team will tell you that the pitching sets the tone, especially the starters," said Boston (Rk+) skipper Jay Mizrahi.
The losing streak for Princeton has now reached 4 games.
