Pirates Losing Streak at 9 After Extra-Inning Loss to Rays
|
The Princeton Rays got a stellar performance from pitcher Tony Severs, who handcuffed the Bristol offense en route to a win, 5-1, at Devault Memorial Stadium. Princeton reliever Danny Fluegge picked up the win, while Juan Benavides took the loss for Bristol. The Pirates, now 10-37, have lost 9 straight.
Princeton used the timely hitting of Rafael Bello to seize the win. The center fielder stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the tenth inning to put the Rays on top, 2-1. It was his only hit in 2 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
In postgame comments, Bello said, "I think we gave the fans their money's worth."
