Mike Rutherford could take little solace in pitching a good game. The fact is his Pittsburgh Pirates lost, dropping a 3-1 decision to the New York Mets at PNC Park. Kerry Moreno sewed up the save, his 2nd. The Mets go to 15-28 with the win.
New York used a well-timed hit by Jeff Hestermann to capture the win. The second baseman socked a 2-run double in the top of the sixth inning to put the Mets ahead, 2-1. Though it was his only hit in 4 at-bats, it was important.
"It feels good, just a great win all around," Hestermann said after the game.
