Guardians Collect 5-3 Win Over Cubs
|
Fans were not deterred by the threat of rain. They came to see their hometown Chicago Cubs take on the Cleveland Guardians.
The Cleveland Guardians defeated the Chicago Cubs, 5-3, in 10 innings in American League action at Wrigley Field. Cleveland pitcher Greg Pence had a standout performance. Cleveland pitcher Pablo Iglesias got the win. He's now 2-1. Andrew Gray was tagged with the loss. Nick Mulcahey earned save number 1 this season.
Cleveland used the hitting of J.J. Kirby to pick up the win. The right fielder clubbed a 2-run single in the top of the tenth inning to put the Guardians on top, 5-3. For the game, Kirby had 1 home run and 1 single in 5 at-bats.
"Nervous? No," said Pence. "It was my time to shine."
The win gives the Guardians a record of 14-30.
