Loss to Twins Extends Baltimore Losing Streak
|
The Baltimore Orioles got a superb performance from pitcher Steve Whiteside, but the Minnesota Twins still won the game, 2-1. Whiteside threw 7.0 innings of 5-hit ball. Ricardo Sauceda earned the win after being called from the bullpen. The left-hander allowed 1 run on 1 hit in 1.2 innings. He upped his record to 1-0. Jeff Downing earned the save, his 3rd.
In the bottom of the fifth, Minnesota right fielder Greg Schuler had a productive at-bat. With a runner on 3rd and no one out, Schuler stroked a run-scoring single to left. It made the score 2-0, Minnesota. For the game, he went 1-3.
"Win or lose, we always try to grind it out and stay even-keeled," Schuler said in reaction to the win.
Minnesota is third in the American League Central Division with a record of 24-21.
