The Stockton Ports wasted an inspired, 6.1-inning effort from starter Chris Ricks, falling 2-1 to the Inland Empire 66ers at San Manuel Stadium. Rich Velez, the winning pitcher, improved to 5-12. He pitched 7.1 innings, giving up 8 hits and 1 run, while striking out 3 and walking 1. The last-place 66ers improved to 50-84.
The 66ers got a big at-bat from first baseman John Phillips. For the game, Phillips was 1-2 with a home run and a walk, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. In the bottom of the fourth, with a runner on 1st, he stroked a 2-run home run. His 2nd home run of the season gave Inland Empire a 2-0 lead.
