Nationals Nipped, 5-3, by San Francisco
|
The San Francisco Giants had to overcome a fine effort from Washington pitcher Daniel Gil to win, 5-3, at Nationals Park. Gil went 7.1 innings and allowed 2 runs. San Francisco reliever Troy Anderson was the winner. His record is now 1-1. The losing pitcher was Gene Glaus. The loss makes Washington 28-19.
Mike Pothast came through with a big-time hit for San Francisco. The pinch hitter smacked a 2-run home run in the top of the eighth inning to give his team the lead, 4-3. It was his only hit, but it was clutch.
"It was sure nice to get the win but there's a lot of baseball left," Pothast after the game.
