Astros Drop Red Sox, 5-3
|
The Houston Astros had to overcome a big game from Boston catcher Sergio Mejia to leave Fenway Park with a victory. And they did, winning 5-3. Mejia went 3-4 with a triple and 2 singles. He drove in 2 runs and scored once. Guillermo Padron earned the win after being summoned from the bullpen. The right-hander allowed no runs on no hits in 2 innings. His record is now 2-0. The third-place Astros go to 24-24.
The outcome might have been different for Houston, had it not been for Aaron Bruckerhoff, the 30-year old second baseman . Bruckerhoff stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the tenth inning to put Houston up, 4-3. For the game, he was 3 for 5, including 1 double and 2 singles.
"You never take a win for granted in this league," said Bruckerhoff.
