Martinko Beguiles New York
|
The New York Yankees manager was philosophical in the clubhouse following a shutout loss to the Chicago Cubs. The Yankees were overpowered by Chicago starter Brian Martinko, who hurled his club to victory, 7-0.
"It was just one of those games -- shake it off and do better next time," Mike Hanson said.
Over 5.2 innings, Martinko blanked New York on 2 hits with 1 walk and 3 strikeouts.
"I kept them off balance. I could tell a lot of them were late on fastballs because they were fouling them off. Once you see that, it sets them up for other pitches," Martinko said.
"I set them up, where if they chased one breaking ball, they were going to chase another one."
This year, Martinko has registered 3 wins and 1 loss in 10 starts with a 3.49 ERA while registering 70 strikeouts and 12 walks in 59.1 innings.
