The Tampa Bay Rays soundly defeated the Boston Red Sox, 11-3, at Fenway Park. Chris Ballance, who is on pace for 81 RBI this season, let his bat do the talking. He went 3-4 with a home run and a double, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 5 for Tampa Bay. Eddie Melendez, who is tied for 3rd in the AL with a 0.96 WHIP, was the winner. He's now 5-1. The loser was Terry Connors. Tampa Bay goes to 27-21, Boston to 21-27.

With Tampa Bay leading 2-0 in the top of the first, Ballance hit a 2-run single off Boston hurler Dave Salvaggio. It was the 41st hit of the season for Ballance and put his team ahead, 4-0.
