New York Mets starter Andy Anderson pitched a strong game against the Washington Nationals at Citi Field, leading the Mets to victory, 6-1. Ollie Hardy earned the save for New York, his 1st. The last-place Mets raised their record to 17-31.

The Nationals had been locked in a 1-1 tie with the Mets going into the bottom of the fourth inning. That changed quickly when the fan favorite Jeff Hestermann came to the plate. Hestermann hit a 2-run home run on a 2-2 fastball from Washington hurler William Palmer. It was Hestermann's 8th home run of the year.

Anderson called the win "a team effort."
