Cubs Take Down Brewers, 5-4
|
The Chicago Cubs did just enough to sneak past the Milwaukee Brewers, 5-4, at Miller Park. Chicago pitcher Ron Payne, in particular, had a standout performance. Their 29-20 record puts the Cubs second in the National League Central Division.
Chicago needed the clutch hitting of Kevin Luzzo to notch the win. The right fielder hammered a solo home run in the top of the 13th inning to put the Cubs on top, 5-4. For the game, Luzzo had 1 home run and 2 singles in 5 at-bats.
"It was a test of wills," said Vin Calia, the Chicago skipper. "I'm glad we came out of it with a win."
