The New York Yankees defeated the Los Angeles Angels, 5-3, in American League action at Angel Stadium of Anaheim. New York pitcher Yu-eh Chio had a standout performance. Getting the save was Pete Thomas, his 7th. With the win, the Yankees improved to 17-32.

New York used a well-timed hit by Danny Correa to capture the win. The left fielder socked a bases-clearing double in the top of the first inning to put the Yankees ahead, 4-0. Though it was his only hit in 4 at-bats, it was important.

"Throwing strikes was the main thing," Chio said.
