Rays Drop Athletics, 8-7, with Late Score
|
At O.co Coliseum, the Oakland Athletics and Tampa Bay Rays were greeted by an enthusiastic crowd.
The Tampa Bay Rays withstood an impressive performance by Oakland third baseman Justin Dunsmore to defeat the Athletics, 8-7, at O.co Coliseum. Dunsmore went 2-3 with a home run. He drove in 4 runs and scored once. Tampa Bay reliever Malachi Scott got the win, raising his record to 4-1. Matt Ortiz was tagged with the loss. Tim Berigan earned the save for Tampa Bay, his 10th of the year.
Paul Shapiro went 1-1. He drove in 2 runs and scored once for Tampa Bay. The 29-year old shortstop had a key at-bat in the top of the ninth. With one out and the bases loaded, he broke a 7-7 tie with a run-scoring sacrifice fly off Matt Ortiz. It was his 22nd RBI of the season.
"We'll grab a cold beverage tonight and go after another win tomorrow," Shapiro said.
The Rays raised their record to 20-30.
